In Search of Victory part-17

 21st March 1982,

Dear Diary,

I, Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of Great Britain believe in the future of my country. Already this country has been overburdened by wasteful government programs aimed to alleviate the poor when all the poor can do is to work hard and earn an honest wage. I, therefore, intend to cut government spending on such wasteful programs and give the impetus for the people to work hard.

It is no secret that the rich got rich because they had the motivation to work hard and earn an honest wage. In fact, I believe that government programs should actually benefit those who work hard including the rich. Accordingly, I have sought to introduce reforms that benefit the hardworking rather than the lazy and the unemployed.

In foreign affairs too, our country is in a spot of bother as the Russians have gained momentum in Europe as communist governments have come up in Greece, Turkey and Austria and they have quit NATO to join the Warsaw pact. But Poland even after many attempts by the Russians to seize power has still remained democratic. However, we must always prepare ourselves for an imminent nuclear war with Russia which is the one common enemy of anyone who believes in freedom. We along with the United States of America must take up the responsibility to protect freedom around the world and fight for democracy.

Already the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan has jeopardized democracy in the country. We along with the Americans rightly boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics. While our victory in the Falklands War against Argentina is one step forward for freedom in the world. I believe that one day freedom and democracy shall again rule the world which will be free from the evil grasp of communism. Long live Great Britain!
