Dear Diary,
I, Gamal Abdel Nasser am very hopeful for the cause of creating the greater Arab nation. We, the Arabs have been denied our rights by the West and the Zionists of Israel for far too long. It is true that the might of Israel was built on the plight of the Palestinians who were subject to brutal torture after their land was occupied in the 1948 war. Therefore, we the members of the Arab World must ensure that the Palestinians get back their rights and their claims in the Ancient city of Jerusalem. Therefore the ideology of Pan-Arabism seeks to unite the divided Arabian people and create a united Arab nation which helps the Arabs to get back their long lost glory. In fact, we have been denied a separate Arab nation by the British who promised us the same when we revolted against the Ottoman Empire but went back upon their promise after the Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916 between Britain and France who carved up the Arab world between their own spheres of influence after the Fall of the Ottoman Empire.
We Arabs should therefore never forget this treachery by the West and should always be vary about their policies and intentions and should rather embrace socialism instead of the capitalism of the West so that all the Arab people can enjoy the fruits of Arab labour. It is with this view that I nationalized the Suez canal in 1956. The West as is expected of them did not like it and attempted to invade my country in order to regain control of the canal for their businesses but I defended my country and the interests of the Arab world against them and won. It was not only a victory for Egypt but also for the whole Arab world who defended their land against Western imperialism. I kept my idea of Arab liberation and pan-Arabism in mind while governing my country throughout my tenure.
I also believe that we Arabs must usurp those leaders who are stooges of the West in order to avoid proxy rule by the West. That is why during the civil war in North Yemen between the Republicans and the Royalists, I supplied the Republicans with troops, arms and ammunition. My aim was extremely simple it was that to realize the idea of an Arab union, we must remove those rulers who are Western stooges. The plan worked, the Royal family was deposed and Republican Yemen is now staunchly anti-Western. I believe that we the Arabs must fight the twin enemies of Zionism and imperialism of the West and may we emerge victorious. Long live Arab unity!
