In Search of Victory part-4

 25th March 1964,

Dear Diary,

I, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, President of the United States have learnt a lot during my first term as President. I have had to handle a lot of problems as well as survive an assassination attempt and I can say that solved all those at least satisfactorily. During my Presidency, America faced a lot of problems, not least being the prospect of nuclear war because of the decision of my Soviet counterpart Nikita Khruschev to place nuclear-tipped missiles in Cuba. Thankfully our air force found it out quickly and we could reach a diplomatic solution. I can understand why Cuba needed protection after our failed invasion attempt at the Bay of Pigs. But for the safety of our homeland, I have to make sure that none of our hostile neighbours possesses nuclear weapons as then they will pose a direct threat to our sovereignty. Indeed even the thought that Brazil, Mexico or Colombia having nuclear weapons makes me shiver as then America's position will become even riskier in its immediate neighbourhood where already the scourge of Communism is spreading like wildfire with Ecuador and Guatemala becoming the latest countries to have communist regimes.

Therefore it is absolutely imperative that we hold on to Argentina where our planned coup to install General Bolano has failed as the country has become divided into two parts namely North Argentina and South Argentina, as the Peronist loyalists have taken refuge in the Southern parts and particularly in the city of Viedma. Therefore I have extended full support to General Bolano and have authorized the use of US forces to aid him. Although this has created controversy in my country with several anti-war marches erupting in cities, I believe that ultimately an Argentina without Peronism will be beneficial for America.

Also, a new threat of Communism has been looming in Tibet where militias trained by the USSR and India have tried to usurp the power of the Dalai Lama and establish a Communist regime. Therefore we collaborated with China to support the Dalai Lama and end the Communist insurrection. I must say with Latin America slipping out of our control we must retain control of Asia and increase our influence in Africa and the Middle East. But our top priority should be Europe where the USSR has already built a wall around East Berlin. This shows that at least in Europe the Communists do not have the upper hand as they fear the power of democracy which can crush their tyrannical ideology. Already in Europe, we have had success in Hungary where rebels trained by us have successfully seized power to set up a democracy. Hopefully, this is the start of many such transitions.

Meanwhile, in the domestic front, our country has gone through a tumultuous time with the Civil Rights Movement rightly gaining momentum. Therefore I have signed the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act into law in order to end segregation in America and give the African Americans their rights. Hopefully, now our minorities will finally gain freedom and the process which was begun by the great Abraham Lincoln by ending slavery will be successful. Long Live America!!!
