In Search of Victory part-3

 2nd August 1958,

Dear Diary,

What I, John Foster Dulles, Secretary of State of the United States had feared has happened. A Communist wave has swept over Latin America. It all began with the Cuban Revolution under Fidel Castro in 1955. Castro was a man who was trained in the USSR itself and used his training by the KGB to good effect and has successfully radicalized Cuba to overthrow the Batista regime. Then he along with his brother Raúl and his friend, a man called Ernesto Che Guevara has spread this poisonous ideology all over the region. They have with the support of the Russians successfully funded and trained Communist militias in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Guatemala. While we have cooperated with the governments of these states and aided them in their fights against these guerrilla outfits, in most cases we have failed miserably. Already the Communists have seized power in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia and have nationalized those industries which involved American players. This has had adverse consequences for the American business community and therefore we have to take action now. Already yesterday my brother Arthur, who is in charge of the CIA has created a special task force for Latin America with the aim of creating our own outfits which can overthrow these evil regimes. It is especially required for our interests as these countries lie in our immediate neighbourhood and we must ensure that at least our immediate neighbourhood does not pose a threat to us.

One silver lining for us is that Juan Perón of Argentina has firmly established control over his land and has firmly resisted any attempts by militias to overthrow him. However, his ideology is neither liked by us nor by the USSR as it seeks to combine the values of Liberty and Freedom with the evil value of Communism. Therefore we need to be vary of this man and not trust him. Already my brother Arthur has found out a suitable replacement for him namely the General Gabriel Bolano. Therefore we should strive to depose Perón at the earliest and install this General as the President of Argentina. In fact, securing a foothold over Argentina should be a foreign policy priority for us as this will prevent Communism from polluting that land.

Another good thing for us is that most of Asia are firmly under our grasp with Vietnam still being a French colony after the capture and execution of Ho Chi Minh, the Communist rabble-rouser. However, one small problem in that region is that the newly independent India under Muhammad Ali Jinnah refuses to listen to us and has cultivated close relations with the Communists. But with poverty infesting the land, I do not think India can do much, but I believe that we must keep all the options open regarding India. But a more important development is that the oil-rich Iran wants to nationalize its oil industry and is being aided by the Communists. Therefore it is the need of the hour for us to take actions regarding Iran. We must ensure that Communism cannot penetrate in Iran and that we must strive for. Already we are considering the prospect of bringing the Shah back in Iran and I must say that it is the right course of action because we must do all to defeat Communism.
